It shouldn't be, though. You and I both know that it's not necessary to have a legal background to realize that a publishing company is going to slant everything to protect its interest, which includes expanding and gaining unfair advantage over the party in the less powerful negotiating position. (Okay, maybe the expanding and gaining unfair advantage part thing wouldn't be expected by people who aren't totally paranoid don't have legal training have generally trusting natures, but you know what I mean.) There comes a point when naivety just doesn't cut it from any standpoint.
